Hello all bakers, new and old! We are thrilled to have you be apart of Lancaster University's official Baking Society, the place where all sweet and savoury bakes come to life. Whether you're an experienced baker, or a complete beginner, our society is the perfect place to connect with new people and have a chance to bake a variety of different pastries, cakes and cookies alike.
The way our society works: we host bi-weekly socials and a Bake each Saturday of the term with time slots starting from 10:30 to 13:30 with 8 available slots for each baker. Our bakes change each week, with some bakes being themed towards the upcoming holidays like last year's Christmas tree brownies and bonfire cupcakes. We accommodate any eating alternatives for our bakers with allergies, or bakers with coeliac and gluten-free by also offering vegan alternatives ingredients if a baker lets us know beforehand. Every week we choose a star baker, to pick out the best looking bake of the session which will be posted on our Instagram page @lubakingsociety.
Our baking sessions are a great way to start your weekend, whether its making snacks before studying, or a nice treat to make to recover from a Friday night hangover. All you need to bring is a Tin or Tupperware since we provide all ingredients. Since we know baking leads to a lot of cleaning at the end, our Baking Soc Execs do all the washing up, meaning you just need to wipe off your workstation before the next time slot of bakers arrive.
As a society we offer memberships of £3 per term or £6 for the entire academic year. Our Saturday baking sessions cost £2.50 per session to cover ingredient costs, and only baking society members can attend baking sessions. Our baking session tickets usually release at 3pm on Saturday after the current bake have finished. We welcome bakers of all levels and abilities with the main aim for our members to enjoy themselves and connect with others.
Baking society is so much more than baking but also a place to meet new people and relax after a lot of uni work through our socials as a way to come together since not everyone can make it to our baking sessions. To name a couple of socials from last year, there's been bingo night, Christmas meal and watching Bake Off.
We're excited to meet all our new bakers coming to Lancaster University this October so make sure to find us during freshers fair or participate in our Collab with Fylde College during freshers week!
You can find us on Instagram and TikTok at @lubakingsociety and make sure to join our Facebook group 'Lancaster University Baking Society.
