Lancaster University Baking Society

Code of Practice

All members must adhere to these baking society rules and health and safety regulations at all times. If you do not follow them, you may be asked to leave the session.

General Rules

  • Members should aim to arrive 5 minutes before their session to carry out the personal hygiene rules outlined below. This will help us start the sessions on time.

  • All members MUST arrive within 20 minutes of the start time of their slot otherwise you will not be able to bake. If you are repeatedly late to your booked sessions we will consider whether you are still able to attend baking sessions because it is unfair on other members.

  • Only members that have purchased a ticket in advance can bake. Please only book a ticket if you are certain you want to attend as spaces are limited so booking just in case can remove the opportunity from other members and we are unable to process refunds.

  • Follow the instructions provided by the recipe and written on the whiteboard.

  • We only have the room booked until 4 so you must finish baking by 3:30 to allow exec the time to clear away before other room users arrive. This allows 2 hours for the last session which is more than enough time to complete all our bakes. At 3:30 we will have to ask everyone to leave Fylde Common Room.

  • You must bring a container to all sessions, we do not have any spare containers or clingfilm/tinfoil.

Personal Hygiene

  • Hands must be washed;

    • At the start of every baking session

    • After handling rubbish and raw food, especially eggs

    • After cleaning

    • After coughing or sneezing

    • After touching your mouth, hair or face

  • Tables must be wiped down before and after baking

  • Members should not attend sessions when ill

  • Any open cuts or sores should be covered with a blue waterproof plaster (provided by baking society – ask exec)

  • Tie up long hair

  • All personal items must be left by the sofas

Allergies

  • It is your responsibility to make exec aware of any allergies and to read the recipe and check our allergens grid to ensure you are able to consume the bake.

  • Any questions about allergies, contact baking society Instagram or email.

Inform a member of exec immediately if;

  • An item of equipment is damaged or broken

  • An ingredient is out of date or not suitable for any reason

If you have any questions ask any member of exec.
