Baking Soc's Bake Off Social!

Hi Bakers! I hope everyone is powering through this second half of Michaelmas term and that Baking Society is bringing a bit of sunshine to combat the early dark nights. Last Tuesday we had our first ever Bake Off Social. A shoutout to Leah our Social Sec for a great event! We hope all of you who came along had as much fun there as we did seeing your designs as the Exec. For anyone who wasn’t there, and everyone who was, here is the rundown of what we got up to…

Our members were in teams of 2 or 3 and had to bake cookies, shape them, and decorate them to compete for the winning prize of some Heroes chocolates. As we all know, when chocolate is involved, the competition is well and truly on! With 40 of you baking our judges Kathryn and Liv, President and Vice, had a difficult task on their hands in picking the top three. It is safe to say we have a creative set of members this year- from Christmas trees to cats, from mice to butterflies, there were all sorts of sweet designs looking good enough to eat there and then.

Winners were decided after much deliberation… Congratulations to the Bake Off Social winners, ‘The Dinos’, with their fabulous prehistoric biscuit scene of, you guessed it, dinosaurs, an erupting volcano, clouds and even a sun. We hope you have been enjoying your Heroes as a coursework break incentive or treat whilst you watch actual Bake Off! In second place we had ‘Mary Berry and her Star Bakers’. This team made adorable ginger people iced in individual outfits and surrounded by stars. We loved the sprinkles as Mary Berry’s hair! ‘Team Timmy’ took third place with their beautiful pastel butterfly and love heart biscuits. The sprinkles on each butterfly wing were symmetrical- a detail much appreciated by the judges. A deliciously successful social!

Now then, speaking of Bake Off… keep your eyes peeled about our next social in week 8 where we will be watching the Great British Bake Off final, accompanied by a bingo card to tick off as we watch! We hope many of you come along and info is on our Instagram. Happy Baking everyone
